I really like the amount of detail the author includes but I can’t say that I’m enjoyed the book all the time. One of the crucial parts of a trail book is about the relationships. ‘Possible’ doesn’t seem to be able to keep relationships on the trail. He’s angry with a bad marriage making an impact on his experience. Possible makes sure to mention any particular place or any person whom he feels has slighted him (hence all hikers) in some manner. Not sure what to do with that info. I felt an emotional disconnect with the writer halfway through. I am getting technical and helpful suggestions, but I find that I don’t care about the person behind the story until I get toward the end. I feel bad about that a bit, but it’s not on me that he appears to be carrying more baggage than his pack. Possible includes an incredible amount of detail. I really wish he had enjoyed more interactions with other hikers. I missed the comraderie. What he accomplished at the end, mostly alone, is incredible. I agree that you can’t walk away from your problems because wherever you go your problems go. I love books about the big trails, especially the Appalachian and have read several. This was one of the most detailed and best accounts of a trail journey that I have read. Mister Kiernan shares his experience with the trail both in the physical sense, but also how he deals with the emotional events he encounters and struggles with along the way. The end of the book has a great gear review and thoughtful pointers for anyone thinking of trying this hike themselves. Thank you for sharing!
