Ebook About
Welcome, foolish mortals, to spooky Halloween stories about all things Disney! Step into the dead center of the book to learn about the ghosts, devils, witches and other nightmare creatures that haunted the magical worlds of Disney to give us all moments of humor and horror.Chapters are devoted to Disney animation, Disney live-action movies, Disney theme parks, Disney witches and much more including the Ben Cooper Halloween costumes, the Halloween comic book stories of Carl Barks, Walt Disney’s connection to Halloween, and Disney Halloween television specials among many other things. While living in Marceline, Missouri as young boys, Walt Disney and his older brother Roy loved exploring and playing in an old house that was rumored to be haunted. Some unknown incident happened on one of those visits and they never returned but it effect Walt even though he never spoke of it again.Did actor Bela Lugosi famous for his portrayal of Dracula actually pose for the Chernabog demon in Fantasia (1940) using his Dracula cape? Why was the Silly Symphony short The Skeleton Dance (1929) considered too grotesque to be shown to theater audiences? What were the secret stories behind Billy the Zombie in Hocus Pocus (1993) in his own words? What were the behind-the-scenes shenanigans in the Halloweentown made-for-television movies? What details are at Walt Disney World’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror that don’t exist at any other version of the attraction at other Disney theme parks worldwide? What was the story behind Imagineer Yale Gracey who created so many of the iconic special effects in The Haunted Mansion including quotes from people who knew and worked with him?Discover what made the Wicked Witch from Snow White, The Marvelous Mad Madam Mim, and The Enchanting Magica De Spell some of the most memorable and beloved spell-casters around the world for decades. And there’s much more to enhance your trick-or-treating fun with over a dozen additional short stories about Disney’s connections with the Halloween holiday.Dedicated to Jack Hannah, the director of the Disney Halloween short Trick or Treat, who was the first Disney animator I ever interviewed and who always gave me little treats of information.Like me, he loved that particular cartoon and, of course, the lesson that was in its theme song: "Trick or Treat. Trick or Treat for Halloween. When ghosts and goblins by the score ring the bell on your front door, better not be stingy or your nightmares will come true."

Book Vault of Walt 9: Halloween Edition: Spooky Stories of Disney Films, Theme Parks, and Things That Go Bump In the Night Review :

We have purchased several of the Korkis "Vault of Walt" books and have always found the information interesting, although the sequencing of events and narration at times confusing. This last time around has so far been the worst. We started out reading the chapter on "Night on Bald Mountain" and almost immediately became frustrated. The chapter starts out discussing Walpurgishnacht, then jumps to "Night On Bald Mountain" animator Tytla. Suddenly there is an interjection of a planned 2015 live action remake and the introduction of Mt. Triglav as an inspiration; the next paragraph then jumps to how Walt wanted the mountains sequence to give the audience chills. Walt had been dead for decades by 2015, so why is this quote here instead of earlier? Heinrich Kley's illustration is introduced as an inspiration for animator Albert Hurter, then suddenly there is the introduction of artist Kay Nielsen and his influence on the studio in 1939. So wait - was Tytla inspired by Nielsen, or Hurter, or both? Where in the timeline are we? This is not made clear. There are numerous grammatical and stylistic errors, including jumps from one-sentence "paragraphs" to other paragraphs on a different topic with no transition. There are misplaced apostrophes, dangling participles, etc. On the back cover itself, there is a major tense error and use of "effect" (rather than "affected") in the third paragraph. It reads like someone's rough draft of ideas tossed onto the page in the order they are thought of with no flow, no understandable reason or rhyme to the transitions.Mr. Korkis is an incredible resource for detail but *please* make sure there is a professional editor to help with narrative organization and flow of the content: making sure the reader understands the connections, helping with basic sentence structure, and catching the errors noted above. These may sound like minor errors, but they detract from the scholarly integrity of the work. Mr. Korkis's research and experience deserves better presentation.
I always look forward to Jim Korkis' next book in his The Vault Of Walt series and especially looked forward to this Halloween Edition of The Vault Of Walt Volume 9. I've always enjoyed the various Disney connections to Halloween, influding the animation, films, parks, and other varied stories. Jim covers them all in the LOOK INSIDE choice that Amazon gives on this book. I was already familiar with some of the info in this book, but Jim explored even subjects that I thought I was an expert on to the degree that I learned and enjoyed new info. I BELIEVE THAT ANYONE INTERESTED IN DISNEY OR HALLOWEEN WOULD ENJOY THIS BOOK IMMENSELY! I DID ... and look forward to referring to the info again later. A very special book!!
